General Rules
NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. The contest is free to enter and open to all students in the U.S. from the ages of 13 - 18 years.

From Wednesday, May 9, 2018 through Friday, June 15, 2018 (the "Contest Period"), Heather Maclean Inc. will conduct an essay contest in the 50 United States and the District of Columbia; the U.S. Territories; and American Armed Forces Schools Abroad, regarding the idea of inspiration (the "Contest"). To enter, eligible students (see Eligibility Requirements) must submit an entry that follows the Submission Guidelines. We will not accept or consider entries that are mailed-in. As further detailed in the Availability Disclaimer, entrants agree to accept and be bound by all terms of these Official Rules and Regulations and to accept and be bound by the decisions of Heather Maclean Inc., whose decisions are final with respect to all matters of the Contest.

Only one entry per student is permitted. Entries that are incomplete, are submitted late, do not answer the required question, contain information other than was requested, or otherwise do not comply with these Official Rules and Regulations will not be accepted.

Eligibility
The Contest is open to all United States citizens or legal residents who are students who are no older than 18 and no younger than 13 as of the end of the Contest Period who (1) attend school in the United States, one of its territories or districts, or an American Armed Forces School Abroad, and (2) who are in grades 6 - 12 attending public, private, religious, or charter schools, or (3) are enrolled in a GED or correspondence school program, or (4) are attending a home school program.

All participants must list valid contact information as part of the contest submission form and receive parent/guardian permission to participate. This information will not be stored, sold, or used in any way other than to contact the winner.

Employees of Heather Maclean Inc. and the immediate family (spouse, parents, siblings, and children) and household members of each such employees are not eligible.

The Contest is subject to all federal, state, and local laws and regulations. Void where prohibited. No purchase is necessary to enter or win.

Submission Guidelines
Each submission must adhere to the word limit, and must be submitted by 11:59 pm ET on the day of the deadline. Only online submissions will be accepted for the contest. Only one essay per student will be accepted.

Essays must not violate any third-party rights, including, but not limited to, copyrights, trademark rights, or rights of privacy and publicity. By submitting an Essay you represent that you are the author of the Essay and you own all rights to the Essay.

You agree to release, indemnify, and hold harmless Heather Maclean Inc. from and against any claim or cause of action that arises from or relates to your Essay or your participation in any phase of this Contest.

Submissions cannot be revised or altered once submitted. Incomplete or inaccurate nominations are void.

Judging
After the Contest Period, the judges selected by Heather Maclean Inc. will review and select a winner from all the eligible entries received. Entries will be evaluated based upon the following criteria: adherence to the Submission Guidelines, originality, thoughtful reflection, and a strong personal voice. All work must be original and unpublished. In addition, judges will consider grammar, organization, syntax, and clarity of content and ideas. Winners will be announced on the contest site on or around June 25, 2018.

Heather Maclean Inc. reserves the right in their sole administration of the Contest to disqualify any individual they find or believe to: (i) be tampering with the entry process or the administration of the Contest, (ii) be acting in violation of these Official Rules and Regulations, or (iii) plagiarizing content in any form.

The selection of the judges is within the sole and absolute discretion of Heather Maclean Inc. The judges who are selected will not have a direct connection to the student who has submitted the entry or be in a position to affect the objectivity and impartiality of any judge with respect to a submission.

Awards
Winners will be announced on the contest site on or around June 25, 2018. Winners will receive the following prizes based upon the judges' evaluations as outlined above.

Grand Prize: One Grand Prize winner will receive a $500 scholarship (courtesy of Heather Maclean, Inc.) to use for the educational expenses of their choosing.

The Grand Prize winner will also receive a souvenir plot of land in the Scottish Highlands, courtesy of Highland Titles (www.highlandtitles.com). The land will consist of a 10-square-foot plot in The Mountain View Nature Reserve in Lochaber, Scotland, and a 1-square-foot plot in the Glencoe Wood Nature Reserve in Glencoe, Scotland. The location of each plot is unique. To view the plot on a map, the winner can use the free Scottish Estate Manager app, which can be downloaded from the Highland Titles website. Additionally, the plot can be viewed via the Highland Title's online land register, also available on their website.

The winner will receive a personalised certificate detailing the souvenir plot of land and the rights which may be enjoyed by the winner and their heirs. The Master Title Deed entitles the winner to adopt the title of Laird, Lord, or Lady. The prize also includes a DVD tour of the area.

As a new Laird, the winner can visit Scotland and find their plot; take a walk in the woods, take a photograph of their Estate, picnic by the river and more. The land is a nature reserve and the winner will be able to enjoy bird watching, fungi spotting, country pursuits and lots of tranquillity. The winner is welcome to plant a tree or scatter ashes. A free Meet & Greet may be arranged in advance by contacting Highland Titles. Please note: the prize does NOT include transporation to or accommodation in Scotland.

The teacher the winner designates as the person who most inspired their writing will also receive their own unique, 1-square-foot plot in the Glencoe Wood Nature Reserve in Glencoe, Scotland, and the right to be styled as the Laird, Lord, or Lady of Glencoe.

Additionally, the winner's school library, or the local library of their choosing, will receive a book prize pack worth over $400, courtesy of Blink YA Books (www.blinkyabooks.com).

Prize cannot be substituted for any other items or redeemed for cash by the winner. Prize is non-assignable and non-transferrable. Heather Maclean Inc. reserves the right to substitute a comparable prize of like or greater value, including cash, for the prize, for any reason. Costs of ground transportation, baggage, additional activities, food/drink, and any other cost not specifically included in the prize are the sole responsibility of the winner.

On or about Monday, June 25, 2018, Heather Maclean Inc. will attempt to notify the potential Grand Prize Winner via email. If a potential Grand Prize Winner cannot be contacted within 48 hours after the first attempt to contact him/her, or if a potential Grand Prize Winner declines the Prize, Heather Maclean Inc. may select an alternate potential winner in his/her place from the list of Finalists.

Prizes will be awarded within three (3) months of the close of the Contest. Prizes not claimed within 180 days of the check date or the end of the Contest will be void. Heather Maclean Inc. will make its best effort to mail the prize to the winner and is not responsible for incorrect address provided by the contestant. All entrants are solely responsible for understanding and complying with any and all federal, state, and local laws, codes, regulations, and ordinances that may apply to the entrants and the activities or business in which such entrants may engage. There may be tax consequences associated with the prizes and income received by a Contest winner, which may include, without limitation, an obligation to report as income and to pay taxes on such income to federal, state, or local authorities. Each Contest winner is responsible to determine the tax consequences of the income received and to comply with all applicable laws in all respects.

Availability Disclaimer
The administration of the Contest, including, without limitation, determining the eligibility of a student or entry, selecting of a judge, evaluating any submitted entry, and awarding of the prizes, is within the sole and absolute discretion of the Heather Maclean Inc. No student or teacher, or person or organization related thereto, has a right to appeal, contest, dispute, or otherwise challenge any aspect of the administration of the Contest, and any decision of Heather Maclean Inc. is final in all respects.

No responsibility is assumed for incorrect or inaccurate entry information whether caused by any of the equipment or programming associated with or utilized by this contest or by any human error which may occur in the processing of entries into this Contest. Heather Maclean Inc. is not responsible for lost, late, misdirected, or delayed entries or any problems or technical malfunctions of any telephone network or lines, computer on-line systems, servers or providers, computer equipment, software, failure of players on account of technical problems, or traffic congestion on the Internet or at any website or combination thereof.

If, for any reason, the Contest is not capable of running as planned, including infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures, or any other causes beyond the control of Heather Maclean Inc., which corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of this contest or for any reason Heather Maclean Inc. deems it necessary, Heather Maclean Inc. reserves the right to cancel, modify, or delay the Contest.

Nondiscrimination Policy
In administering the Contest, Heather Maclean Inc. will not discriminate in any manner, including on the basis of race, color, national, or ethnic origin.

Privacy Policy
The Contest is not intended for children younger than 13 years of age. Heather Maclean Inc. does not knowingly collect or store any personal information about children under the age of 13. Parents should tell their children under 13 not to send any information about themselves to us -- including their name, email address, or mailing address. If we learn that we have collected any personal information from a child under the age of 13 without verification of parental consent, we will delete that information from our database as quickly as possible.
